Best of Heritage -- Life Tribute

Aren't we all about stories? Here is a fantastic story that won our Best of Heritage -- Life Tribute category this year. This was also the catalyst that caused Heritage Makers to join together with the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization. We can now work together with the photographers that serve these families and offer an 8x8 book and our service as consultants. Watch this if you can--it is a great story.

Family Tree

I started with this brand new collection (that I love by the way)

Here's the poster I just made.  It is a 12x18 poster and took about 15 minutes...

Of course I just did the easy part, I need to make sure I have all the picture.  I am pretty sure I do they are all in different places though, so I need to do a little searching.  This family tree takes us back to my kids great-great grandparents.  What I'll do is insert names and faces for each place holder, then I'll make 12x12 page of just faces and decoupage those to tile.  I will put a magnet on the back of each 1x1 tile.  Also, this poster I just made I'll put in a frame with sheet metal, so that everything will stick together.  It will look something like this:

Then my kids can move the magnetized tiles around and learn about their heritage.  I may just use these for Christmas gifts as well...shhhh

Tape and Pictures...just don't do it!

If you ever get the inkling to put tape onto the back of your pictures to stick down to a piece of paper or anything else, just don't do it.  Every once in a while with this business of scanning and photo preservation I get someone's pictures that has had tape on the back.  It is the biggest pain to remove and usually sticks so well that the backs of the photos are often damaged during this process.  ESPECIALLY on older photos.  Also I find that the tape after even a few years starts to yellow and causes a reaction with the photo which in turn damages it in other ways.  SO...if you ever have a temptation to put tape any where near your photos, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, resist that urge! 

Of course if it does happened, or already has happened some of the best tools for removal are metal putty knives, or metal spatulas, or in my case a little tiny pair of scissors for today's work.  NONE of these tools should ever need to be near your precious photos! 

Ok I have to get back to my photo/tape removal job....
