I used to LOVE Digital Scrapbooking magazine. I always loved being inspired, seeing new ideas, and layouts. It was wonderful.
THEN...they stopped printing the magazine. I couldn't believe it! Of course this was only a few months after I had renewed my subscription, so I had paid for something that was no longer available. Now what???
I just received my first copy of the Creating Keepsakes magazine I received as replacement. My first thought as I flipped through the pages was..."Scrapbookers are AMAZING!" There are some absolutely beautiful pages in that magazine, but my big eye opener was all the work and effort that goes into each layout. I would not be able to do that! It takes an incredible person to be able to put all these together.
Here are some qualities that the great traditional scrapbookers seem to have...
- PATIENCE! (See my exclamation point...that's not me!) --Patience to be able to cut out the little scraps of paper, die cut shapes, sew on buttons, stitch together pages, hand journal, print own pictures (or wait until the lab can do it for you,) Spend the needed time on each layout, etc. I know I'm missing things here...sorry!
- Incredibly ORGANIZED --How else would someone actually be able to STORE, FIND, and USE all their little bits and pieces, and have the TIME to actually scrapbook. This was the number one reason I didn't start paper scrapbooking 10 years ago; the pieces would have overwhelmed me.
- LOVE--I notice so many people that are traditional scrapbookers, LOVE the feel of the paper, love the act of creating pages. Love being crafty. (I just love getting it done!)
- I don't really want to put MONEY here, but it does cost quite a bit of money to buy the individual kits, and pieces to have enough inventory to make the pages wanted; not to mention, scissors, machines, glue, etc. I'm not saying this from my experience, but I have friends that their albums have cost $500, $1000, and up. Remember I'm not saying that low cost albums cannot be made...
- CREATIVITY--Have layouts in their heads, or drawn out on paper ahead of time. When designing, I spend a lot of time playing around. I know that if I don't like something, I can just press delete, and if I want it back I can just pull it out of my trash can. AND if I have a layout that I love I can just duplicate it and swap out some colors/embellishments to customize. Paper scrapbookers can't do this...there is some extreme creativity there!
- ESCAPE ARTISTS -- not really, but how else can you scrapbook with kids?! I know everyone doesn't wait until their kids are grown to scrapbook. How in the world do you actually scrapbook with young kids? Curious minds would LOVE to know!
- MOTIVATION -- It takes such a strong desire to pull out the scrapbooking supplies, and then put it all away before you start the next project. I am so impressed! I just close my computer when I need to do something else, and I can open it back up to the very same place. I wouldn't be able to do what you do!
What do you think...did I get this about right?
